Riverfront Walkway, San Jose

For a riverfront park in San Jose, AMPOPS designed a walkway that is also a civic landmark, suspended above the confluence of Los Gatos Creek and the Guadalupe River. The structure rises gradually as a fully accessible path, and viewing platforms open vantages across water, infrastructure, and skyline. The walkway emerges from a grid field of slender poles, a sharp geometry that anchors the site. Reflective titanium cladding catches the light through the day, and at night the structure glows softly above the treetops. High-pressure nozzles release a drifting mist of reclaimed stormwater, recalling the region's valley clouds. From above, the form reads as an arrow pointing north, so as planes depart nearby Mineta San Jose Airport, the walkway becomes a quiet orientation device in the sky.
